Demolition of the Cooper River Bridges
Charleston, South Carolina

• Demolition and recycling of two 2-mile long bridges over two rivers

• Bridge sections removed via both explosive demolition and lowering by jacks into barges

• All demolition work on bridge superstructure and substructure performed by unique equipment—cranes and hydraulic machines on barges

• Removal of foundations to elevation 65.0 ft

• Construction of 1,250 ft long observation pier

• Reconstruction of city streets in footprint of old bridge approaches

• Restoration of wetlands
