New Bedford Harbor Dredge / Capping
New Bedford, Massachusetts
• 85,000 CY of sand hydraulically dredged by the Jay Cashman excavator dredge during construction of the New Bedford Harbor Confined Aquatic Disposal (CAD) cell
• CAD cell served to relocate PCB contaminated harbor sediments during future project phases
• 85,000 CY of material placed over a 19 acre PCB contaminated area in shallow waters (6 ft. to 12 ft.)
• Equipment used included:
• A.J. Dredge barge as a positioning dredge
• Eddie Carroll, Mighty Quinn, and SEI 2000 dump scows
• Bathymetric surveys were continually performed during the capping project and were used to evaluate the cap thickness and placement technique
