Project Highlights
Lower Passic River Dredging Pilot Project
Newark, New Jersey
• NJDOT, USEPA, and USACE completed an Environmental Dredging and Sediment Decontamination Technology Study in December 2005
• Cashman removed approximately 5,000 CY of sediments unsuitable for Open Water Disposal
• 8 CY “CableArm” environmental clam shell style bucket was used for excavation
• Bucket outfitted with a pressure transducer to maintain a bucket depth tolerance of ± 6 inches
• Sediments loaded into 3,000 CY hopper scows and transported to the Bayshore Recycling, Inc. facility
• Bayshore Recycling, Inc. held the materials for future remediation technology trials
• Proposed sediment processes included:
• Endesco Clean Harbors attempted to thermally lock the contaminants into the material and thru this process produce construction grade cement
• BioGenesis Enterprises Inc. propose a method that would use a patented sediment washing technology to produce a manufactures soil that could be used in multiple land-based applications.
