With changes in global conditions, the country’s coastal regions face natural environmental threats from flooding and storm surges, as well as sediment deposits in our navigational channels. Cashman’s environmental and remediation work focuses on natural environmental issues, as well as pollution caused by marine-based or waterfront industrial use.
Because of our experience and techniques, Cashman offers Owners minimal risk to execute their sediment remediation projects safely, on schedule, accurately, and at a predictable cost. Our experience includes remediating PCBs in environments where concentrations exceed 100 ppm, heavy metals, dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs), and other hazardous materials/chemicals. Our crews work on heavily trafficked waterways, including on riverine and open-water environments.
In the early 1990s, Cashman assisted in the cleanup of Boston Harbor and performed the challenging task of installing 55 effluent outfall diffusers on the ocean floor, nine miles from the shore. Cashman’s successes in the 1990s allowed the firm to tackle even more complex work such as contracts on the Boston Central Artery / Tunnel (CA/T) project, which included upland disposal of ~80,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil and hazardous waste.
In the past decade, Cashman has gained a sterling reputation with our Client and regulatory bodies for its environmental remediation dredging efforts on behalf of General Electric from 2009-2015 in cleaning up the Upper Hudson River. Considered the largest PCB-sediment remediation project in U.S. history, the EPA calls the multiple-season effort "a historic achievement."
And recently, a confined aquatic disposal (CAD) cell was used as part of the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal project, which Cashman completed in 2014. This was in addition to the New Bedford Harbor CAD cells that Cashman constructed as part of the EPA’s accelerated Superfund project to clean up PCB contamination of the New Bedford Harbor.
Cashman provides a variety of technical and industrial services for customers that require environmental / site clean-up and remediation.
