Position Summary
The Electrical Technician supports the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems across marine construction equipment, vessels, and job sites. This is an entry-level to early-career position intended for individuals with a strong electrical foundation, mechanical aptitude, and willingness to learn in a hands-on field environment. This role requires regular travel and work in outdoor and marine settings. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, and motivated to develop troubleshooting skills under the guidance of senior technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on marine equipment and construction sites.
- Support troubleshooting of electrical systems, including motors, controls, and power distribution.
- Assist with motor wiring and basic diagnostics, including connections, rotation, and component checks.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings, with guidance as needed.
- Work with analog signals (e.g., 4–20mA, 0–10V) in monitoring and control systems.
- Support inspection and maintenance of generators and associated electrical equipment.
- Use hand tools and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve electrical issues.
- Work closely with senior technicians and field teams to complete repairs and installations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures.
- Travel to project sites and vessels as required to support operations.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Trade school education in electrical, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred, or 1–5 years of relevant experience.
- Basic working knowledge of electrical systems, including 480V down to low-voltage controls.
- Familiarity with or exposure to analog signals (4–20mA, 0–10V).
- Ability to read or willingness to learn to read electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take directions, ask questions, and develop troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to travel and work in field and marine environments.
- Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with generators or industrial equipment.
- Exposure to PLC systems, particularly Rockwell / Logix platforms.
- Background in marine, construction, or heavy equipment environments.
- Hands-on mechanical experience (e.g., engines, boats, fabrication, or similar).
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Climb ladders, stairs, gangways, and vessels.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on uneven or unstable surfaces for extended periods.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights when required.
- Perform work on vessels, docks, and floating platforms.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including a personal flotation device (PFD), which may increase physical strain in certain conditions.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
Work Environment
- Active marine construction and dredging job sites.
- Work performed both on land and on water, including vessels and floating equipment.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, fuel, and industrial environments.
- Frequent travel and potential overnight stays depending on project location.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Compliance with all company safety policies and site-specific requirements.
Compensation
- Hourly rate: $30.00 – $45.00, commensurate with experience.
- Overtime eligible in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
