Deepwater Horizon / BP Oil Spill Cleanup Response

Following the explosion and sinking of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the coast of Louisiana, a massive response ensued to protect Gulf Coast beaches, wetlands and estuaries from the spreading oil using skimmer ships, floating booms, controlled burns, and oil dispersant.

CASHMAN'S Sterling Equipment division was among the firms called on to provide Gulf of Mexico oil spill cleanup following the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in 2010. The response effort attempted to protect beaches, wetlands, and estuaries from the spreading oil utilizing skimmer ships, floating booms, controlled burns, and oil dispersant. Equipment was shipped to the Theodore Industrial Port staging area in Alabama.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

• Sterling was contracted to ship a specialized oil skimmer and recovery system/ operating platform to the Theodore Staging Area in June 2010.
• Response and clean-up items included:
